Absolutely! Having the personal freedom to select the medical providers of your choice is a cornerstone of medical cost sharing. Member advisors are available to assist in providing quality information to help you decide on the best provider(s), but there are no “out-of-network” penalties. It’s your choice.
Visiting functional medicine doctors is a unique situation as many are out of network with insurance and charge a wide range of out-of-pocket fees. As with other medical care, your functional medicine visit for a new illness or injury is shareable after your IUA (Initial Unshareable Amount) has been met. If, however, every Member visited a functional medicine doctor who charges very high rates for each new medical event, there would be a major burden on community shares which could ultimately result in an increase in monthly contributions for all Members.
